It’s the abbreviated name of Japanese Industrial Standards which was established to define the standards for industrial products in 1949. The Ministry of Economy, Trades and Industry is in charge of authorizing the JIS industrial standards. According to the JIS standards, the single size of a kake-buton is 135 cm × 195 cm and the double size is 180 cm × 210 cm. The single size of a shiki-buton is 90 cm × 195 cm and the double size is 135 cm × 210 cm.
