About These Unit Tatami Mats

Create a Japanese-style space simply by placing these unit tatami mats on the floor.

The surface is made with Japanese rush grass grown in Kyushu. Each strand of rush grass is thick, with a strong outer skin and fine fibers, giving the mat a resilient and durable feel.

Rush grass has a fresh natural scent and helps absorb moisture, making the surface comfortable for everyday use. Over time, the color will gradually turn golden, adding natural character to the mat.

The core is made with 15 mm hard cotton padding processed with Aomori cypress. The cypress contains hinokitiol, a natural component traditionally valued for its antibacterial and deodorizing properties.

Easy to Arrange

These mats are designed as a lightweight type, making them easier to carry, place, and put away.

Each mat comes with two TPE resin joint pieces. Attach the joint pieces to the corners on the back side of the mats to help keep multiple mats connected.

This makes it easy to join the mats together and arrange them to suit the size or shape of your room.

How to arrange unit tatami mats

Needle-Punch Processed Core

The lightweight and durable structure comes from the special needle-punch processing used for the backing material.

In this process, layers of thin fibers are intertwined and compressed with many needles. This helps create a dense, stable, and durable mat structure.

  • Air Purification

Rush grass naturally absorbs certain airborne substances, including formaldehyde, helping improve indoor air quality.

  • Humidity Regulation

Rush grass absorbs excess moisture and perspiration, helping maintain a comfortable environment.

  • Natural Deodorizing Effect

Rush grass helps reduce common household odors, including perspiration and ammonia-related odors.

Packing Style

Two rectangle mats and one square mat are packed together.

Two rectangular tatami mats are folded in half and packed in order to fit it into a size that can be shipped by Japan Post. When you receive the tatami, there will be some fold marks, but after a while, they will disappear.

Due to EMS size restrictions, if there are more than two rectangles and one square, the package will be divided into two or more packages.

Hiba Wood Treatment

This product is treated with natural Hiba wood extract sourced from Aomori Prefecture, Japan.

Using proprietary processing technology, Hiba essence is infused into the material. Hiba extract contains hinokitiol, a naturally occurring compound known for its antibacterial and deodorizing properties.

Compared with untreated products, the Hiba treatment helps maintain freshness while adding the pleasant, forest-like aroma characteristic of Hiba wood.

The natural scent of Hiba is often associated with the relaxing atmosphere of a forest retreat, enhancing the comfort of your living space.

Made with Rush grass sourced from Kyushu, Japan

Pure Japanese rush grass, grown with clean water and fresh air, has a distinct toughness and resilience compared to its imported counterparts.

Japanese-grown rush grass is known for its superior density, resilience, and durability compared to many imported alternatives.

The fibers are more tightly packed, making the material:

  • More elastic
  • More durable
  • More resistant to cracking
  • Longer lasting
