About This Rush Grass Rug

This rug expresses the beauty of Kumiko, a traditional Japanese woodworking craft, through the texture and pattern of rush grass.

The geometric design gives the rug a calm, modern Japanese look while keeping the natural feel of igusa. It works well in living rooms, bedrooms, and quiet spaces where you want to add a soft Japanese atmosphere.

Igusa has a fresh natural scent and helps absorb moisture, making the surface feel comfortable underfoot. The surface is treated with Aomori hiba wood extract, traditionally valued for its clean, refreshing character.

Made with Rush grass sourced from Kyushu, Japan

Pure Japanese rush grass, grown with clean water and fresh air, has a distinct toughness and resilience compared to its imported counterparts.

Japanese-grown rush grass is known for its superior density, resilience, and durability compared to many imported alternatives.

The fibers are more tightly packed, making the material:

  • More elastic
  • More durable
  • More resistant to cracking
  • Longer lasting

Hiba Wood Treatment

This product is treated with natural Hiba wood extract sourced from Aomori Prefecture, Japan.

Using proprietary processing technology, Hiba essence is infused into the material. Hiba extract contains hinokitiol, a naturally occurring compound known for its antibacterial and deodorizing properties.

Compared with untreated products, the Hiba treatment helps maintain freshness while adding the pleasant, forest-like aroma characteristic of Hiba wood.

The natural scent of Hiba is often associated with the relaxing atmosphere of a forest retreat, enhancing the comfort of your living space.

FAQ: I see cut rush grass sticking out in some places. Is this defective?

It s not defective. It is a phenomenon known as "Ikire".

Compared to chemical fibers, etc., natural rush grass is more prone to being cut, given it's natural characteristics. There may be cuts resulting from friction in the machine while weaving the fibers, or from dying.

If there are fibers sticking out as shown in the above picture, you can simply cut them using a pair of scissors or nail clippers and use as is.

Care Instructions

Do not wash with water.

Wipe gently with a dry cloth or a tightly wrung cloth when needed.

If moisture remains, dry it well in a shaded, well-ventilated place.

Avoid long hours of direct sunlight, as it may cause fading or uneven color changes.

Store in a dry place when not in use.

Please note: The color of the edges may appear different, this is not a defect. The color variation is not caused by fading or sun exposure, but is a natural characteristic of rush grass.
