The thickness of a full-scale Japanese tatami mat, as defined by the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS), is standardized as 55 to 60 mm. This is a firm tatami mat that is quite close to that thickness. (Real tatami is made entirely of rushes, even the material inside.)
It is quite difficult to send authentic Japanese tatami mats overseas due to cost and import restrictions, but this is the closest product within the range that can be realistically shipped by airmail.
- 4 mats makes the area of 176 x 176 cm (69.2 x 69.2 in)
- With six individual tatami mats, a single to queen size futon can be laid on top.
- It is also ideal as a kotatsu mat.
How about creating a wonderful “Japanese-style corner” in your room?
Create a space with a Japanese mood by simply placing these unit tatami mats on the floor. The mat surface material is made from Japanese (Kyushu)-grown rush grass. Each strand of rush grass is thick, with a thick surface skin and fine fibers, resulting in outstanding elasticity and durability. Rush grass is a natural air purifier and humidity regulator.
It is firm and heavy, so it is more suitable for fixing in a certain place rather than carrying around. It can also be used as a kotatsu mat.
