What is "towelket"?

There are many kinds of blankets. They are made of wool, fluffy fleece, twill, and waffle cotton. In Japan, one of the most popular types of blankets is made from towel fabric.

They may look like oversized pile towels, but they are specially woven to be used as blankets. They are called “towelkets,” a Japanese-English word that combines “towel” and “blanket.”

Towelkets absorb moisture very well, making them essential for summer. They also feel pleasant against your skin, just as you can imagine how comfortable a plush towel feels. Towelkets can also be layered under a kakefuton (quilt) during the cooler months. They are durable enough for frequent washing, and washing actually makes the fibers of the towelket even softer.

It’s not an exaggeration to say that almost every Japanese person owns one or has used one at least once. That’s why we are very particular about the quality of our towelkets.

Here is our selection of towelkets, chosen with confidence that you’ll love them.

General Care of a Towelket

If you are a daily user, you should wash your towelket about once or twice a week.
If you use it only once in a while, it is best to wash it at least once a month.
Since towelkets absorb sweat well, they can become a source of stains and odors when used daily.

Washing instructions vary depending on the product. Be sure to check the washing instructions.

For conspicuous stains, apply undiluted liquid detergent, dab it lightly, and let it sit for a while before washing.

If you put your towelket in a laundry net, be careful how you fold them. When folding, make them alternately into mountain and valley folds. By doing this, it will absorb water and detergent evenly, and you can wash it effectively.

Unlike towels, it is recommended to use less fabric softener on towelkets.
If you use a fabric softener, it will coat the fibers and prevent them from absorbing sweat.

Here are some photos from our customer. This is "Sorbet", which has been used for nearly two years and washed a lot to become fluffy. It will be something you will want to use with you all the time, well adapted to your skin.
