Today we'll let you know about futon tufts and bindings.
100% silk is used for the tufts placed in the four corners intended to prevnt the cotton padding from sliding. A looping 24 threads are bendled together. The fabric and padding filled all the way to the corners are all handmade by skilled artisans.
As with the tufts, the evenly placed binding threads on the top of futons ae also made of 100 silk. These threads are also for temporarily preventing the shifting of the cotton padding until it settles, so there is no problem they fall out.
Silk thread is traditionally used because of its spiky fibers and resistance to unraveling.
In recent years, however, we have been making silk-free futons in response to requests from customers who value animal welfare.
