It is a patterned fabric by weaving contrasting areas of weft floats and warp floats.
By the contrasting float-weave structure, one side of the damask cloth always has a darker face than the other. Also, the pattern has a reversible positive/negative image.
The relatively-flat donsu or kinran is used for the high-grade futon or zabuton.
